The love we shared becomes the light we carry.
Obituary
Eleanor Mitchell had a way of making people feel at home. There was usually something baking, a book left open beside her chair, and time for one more cup of tea. She listened closely, laughed easily, and remembered the little things that mattered to the people she loved.
As a mother to Sarah and James, and a grandmother to Oliver, Eleanor filled family life with small traditions that became treasured memories. Sunday lunches often stretched into the afternoon. Birthdays meant a homemade cake, however ambitious the request. A walk was rarely just a walk: there would be a flower to admire, a neighbour to greet, or a story she had only just remembered to tell.
Eleanor loved her garden, especially in the early morning, when she could wander outside with her tea and see what had changed overnight. She shared cuttings as readily as recipes, and many of her friends still have something growing that began in her garden. Books were another lifelong pleasure. She was happiest passing a favourite on, with a folded note tucked inside explaining why she thought you would love it too.
Her kindness was practical and unassuming: a meal left at the door, a lift offered before anyone had to ask, a phone call on a difficult day. She did not need to be the centre of a room to make it a warmer place.
Eleanor will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and neighbours. We remember her in the familiar things she made special, and in the care we show one another. This page is a place to gather those memories, share her stories, and keep remembering her together.
